Easy Christmas Tree decoration to make
Here is another rainy day project fun for adults as well as the kids, a pretty decoration to hang on the tree, or on a hook, that's really easy to make.
You will need:
48 cm 20 guage wire
Beads. Your color. Roughly 55 of the main color, 20 of the contrast
Tools. Round nose pliers, wire cutters.
A round item. I used a roll-on deodorant bottle. A broom handle will do or something similar. If you have something cone shaped, it would be perfect.
Take your wire and cut approximately 48 cm long. You can form a loop at the end of the wire before wrapping it, if you prefer. Instructions below to make spiral.
You can also place your beads on now while the wire is straight. I usually shape the tree, and then place my beads, it doesn't matter which way it is done.
(I have done on the Green/yellow tree: 1 yellow, 5 green, at the very top placing 1 yellow, 1 green, 2 yellow. On the white/red tree: 1 red, 3 cystal, 1 red bead, 2 crystal, 1 red, 1 crystal, 1 red. )
You can use your own color scheme, depending on the amount of beads you have and how big you decide to make your tree. It would be easy to make a little smaller, or larger on the length you cut your wire.
Wrap wire around deodorant bottle or similar, making a spiral. Slide wire off, and gently pull apart with your hands, making spiral at the bottom larger by twisting bottom loop gently wider, then the next one getting smaller each time. When you are happy with the size and shape (this is not hard, and it doesn't have to be perfect) you should have some wire left over.
No Beads
Near the end of your wire bend gently around and upright. Not so sharply the beads can't slide on (you can bend more later) and straighten curls from the remaining wire.
This is very easy and can be done with your fingers. Just hold wire in one hand and run fingers along wire to straighten it. If you have a wire straigtener, pictured, this makes the job a lot easier.
I have posted a picture to give you an idea of what the frame looks like when shaped.
Place your beads on, using any color scheme you like, repeating pattern, and placing 1 yellow or your color choice, 1 green, 1 yellow (or two if you want and have enough beads) until you are approximately 1 cm from end of wire.
Using round nose pliers grasp as close to bead as possible and bend at right angles from bead. Take end of wire, using middle thicker part of pliers, bend back to form a closed loop to tie a ribbon or cord to.
Already Beaded
If you have already placed your beads on the straight wire, you would've left approximately 1 cm of wire from your last bead, bent this at right angles with your round nose pliers, twisting it back to form a loop so your beads won't fall off, make your spirals, by wrapping gently around a broom, cotton spiel, or similar, pull spirals apart, twisting to make bottom larger, getting smaller towards the top. Leave around 2cm and bend upright to form tree top and hanger.
I make hook hangers and decorate them with beads, see picture, they look really effective and are great to hang all the pretty things you make on the tree.
Hope you like the tree, enjoy and merry Christmas.
